Is it your thyroid? Or maybe your period is about to stop?
Recognising that both menopause and thyroid dysfunction (namely hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism/Hashimoto thyroiditis) may be present simultaneously and both are accompanied by general, sometimes worrisome symptoms, the European Menopause and Andropause Society just issued a position statement on Thyroid disease and Menopause. Women may present with menstrual irregularities, mood disorders, increased sweating, sleep disturbances, hair issues, and diminished QoL. In such cases, differential diagnosis may be challenging. A personalized patient approach is suggested, involving the woman in decision-making and respecting her preferences to achieve overall well-being.
